Twitter Continues Its European Focus With a New UK Blog

Today the social network Twitter has launched a blog dedicated to all-things Twitter in the UK.

Twitter has been making way into the UK and Europe over the past six months, with its first Europe-based employee announced back in May, and UK-specific promoted trends, tweets and accounts .

“From chefs to designers, from museums to the Downing Street Cat, there are more than 100 million people around the world using Twitter to follow their interests and instantly share ideas and information. To kick off our UK blog, we want to highlight a few of our favourites here at home.”

It will be tying in Twitter with key events, and demonstrating how it can be used to follow people from across different disciplines. This is all part of Twitter’s drive to open up the microblog and make it relevant to everyone.

“All of the UK police forces are on Twitter, including @metpoliceUK in London, @GMpolice in Manchester, @HantsPolice in Hampshire and @WMpolice in the West Midlands.”

We’ll start to see a big push from Twitter in the coming months, as it attempts to open up to more users, and it’s compiling lists that focus on different interest areas, much in the same way as it has done on its main Twitter blog.

Twitter Now Available In Five New Languages

Twitter is now available in five new languages including both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Hindi, Tagalog and Malay. These new choices join the 12 other languages that Twitter had already supported. This brings the total number of languages Twitter is available in to 17.

Like many other online services, Twitter is mostly relying on volunteers for translation. To join in, head on over to Twitter’s translation center.

Twitter uses a crowd-sourced translation that uses 290,000 volunteers to translate Twitter.com as well as support pages and Twitter apps.

You can change your language preference for Twitter by going to your Settings page at Twitter.com after logging in and selecting a language there. Once you hit save all of the portions of Twitter that aren’t Tweets should be more familiar to you.

The folks at Twitter also announced that six new languages are coming to the Translation Center soon: Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Polish and Hungarian.

Google Is Going To Add A Twitter-like Suggested User list to Google+

If you have 100k followers or more on Twitter, Google+ may be putting you on their new suggested user list.It’s unclear yet if the suggested user list will include only verified profiles.It will be interesting to see how Google goes about this and whether it’s their first step to verified celebrity profiles, a category that the company is still figuring out how to handle

Google has become more brand friendly with verification for profiles of celebrities, public figures, and people who have been added to an (undefined) ‘large’ number of Circles. When Twitter first rolled out its suggested user list.

It stirred some controversy as those who made it on the list would gain followers exponentially, leaving those who were excluded feeling the system unfair. Twitter has revamped the list last year allowing users to create their own personalized suggested user lists.

Twitter Dangles Apple in Olive Branch to Developers

Twitter executive chairman Jack Dorsey attempts to make nice with third-party developers just ahead of the release of iOS 5.

Twitter’s executive chairman Jack Dorsey wrote “With Apple’s upcoming deep integration of Twitter into iOS 5, there is an opportunity for us, together, to take the ecosystem to a new level”. Twitter’s executive chairman wrote in a note to developers Thursday.

the digital equivalent of extending an olive branch, reassures developers that they are a big part of the company’s genetic makeup — in spite of Twitter’s highly publicized attempts to fill its own holes. They too can benefit from Apple’s blessing, Dorsey asserts.

To prove his sincerity, Dorsey started a “Listening to your feedback” thread on Twitter’s developer forum. The personal touch appears to be working. The general tenor of the thread is upbeat.

developer Steve Streza posits on the thread “Twitter’s communications to developers has been improving in the last couple months, As someone who shut down a Twitter client in development due to poor communication and fast moves by Twitter to take over the client experience, I welcome this move towards more advance knowledge of plans”

Twitter Has Launched A New Feature “User Galleries”……

From Monday 29th-August all users will have galleries added to their profiles in Twitter.This feature will chronologically organize and display up to 100 most recent images in the user’s Tweets.Tweeter has added this new photo feature to compete with the likes of Facebook and Google+

Photos before January 1, 2010 will not be included in the galleries.Image galleries will appear on user profile pages. User gallery will open in the current window By just clicking “view all”.The images included come from photos you’ve uploaded from Twitter, yfrog, Twit Pic, and other photo-sharing services supported by Twitter.

There are two different views are available:-
1. Detail view:-This view will show you most recent images.

2. Grid view:-This view will display thumbnails of all the photos.

Your user gallery will show photos that come from tweets you’ve retweeted, but only if you’ve copied, pasted, and retweeted,If you just hit the retweet button on Twitter, the photo won’t show up in your stream.
